FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY
MECHATRONIC ENGINEERING
FROM THE CHAİR

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Mechatronics is an engineering philosophy and an integrated approach to engineering practices covering the intersection of mechanical, electrical-electronic, control and computer technologies. The mechatronics approach, which was first put forward by the Japanese Yoshikawa Company in 1969, deeply affected engineering design and education, spread all over the world in a short time and its popularity is increasing day by day. Complex and dynamic engineering design and production problems of the 21st century can only be perceived and interpreted with an interdisciplinary approach. Countries that have realized this fact and assimilated the principles of mechatronics design and have seen the critical role of mechatronics in production and invested in this field have achieved significant technological developments. The first institutional studies in the field of mechatronics in Turkey were initiated in the 1990s within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Middle East Technical University (METU).

Selcuk University Faculty of Technology plays a very important role in the development of our country and its rise to the level of developed countries with the engineers it has trained as a deep-rooted education institution located in the center of Konya, one of the most developed industrial regions of our country. In the faculty of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering within the Faculty of Technology of Selcuk University, together with the faculty members who are experts in their fields, experienced and knowledgeable; It plans to train young, dynamic, research-oriented academicians, equipped with the university understanding of the changing world, and qualified engineers that our country needs. He continues to train Qualification Mechatronics Engineers with his Master's and Doctorate education in this field.

In addition, the biggest advantage of studying at the Faculty of Technology is the "Workplace Training" for a semester. During the seventh semester, which is the first semester of the fourth year, our students can increase their practical experience to a very high level before they graduate by working in important industrial organizations throughout the entire term under the name of workplace education. Seeing the expectations of industrial organizations from them and the requirements of the business environment live in the field provides many advantages to our students, and if they prove themselves shortly before graduation, they will be able to receive an offer to work in the engineer staff of important industrial organizations where they perform their workplace training. In the interviews, all of our industrialists express their desire to work with engineers with high application skills, industry experience, and highly competitive engineers who can continuously follow the development towards the needs of the industry. Therefore, both on-the-job training and internship will facilitate post-graduation employment in institutions where internship or on-the-job training takes place.

Double major and minor programs allow students to develop themselves in more than one field. The education plan of our department has been prepared in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System, which is a requirement of the Bologna Process. Erasmus agreements, which envisage student and faculty exchange between European higher education institutions, make our department students advantageous in benefiting from international culture, education and employment opportunities.

         What Do Mechatronics Engineers Do?

Students studying Mechatronics Engineering can work in the following professions: Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Automotive Applications, Defense Industry Applications, Automation Systems, Health Technologies, Energy Systems, Industry 4.0, IoT, Research and Development.

I believe that the graduates of our department will have a say in the field of Mechatronics and fill an important gap, and I wish success to our students in advance.

Prof. Dr. İsmail SARITAŞ

Head of department

SECTION INTRODUCTION

About:

Mechatronic Engineering; It is a modern interdisciplinary engineering design approach that integrates engineering branches such as machinery, electrical-electronics and control, and computer and especially software engineering in a synergistic way.
Making use of various computer aided design tools in engineering design and analysis and bringing students face to face with complex design and application problems by starting from realistic engineering problems in laboratory environments are among the main features of Mechatronics Engineering.
An engineer with a Mechatronics Engineering diploma, equipped with the above-mentioned versatile, integrated knowledge and concepts, will have the privilege of finding a job in a variety of fields, from high-tech companies operating with computer-integrated production systems to research centers that develop and use advanced automation products. In parallel with technological developments, Mechatronics Engineering is foreseen as the engineering branch of today and the future.
Language of the Program: The language of instruction of the program is Turkish.
