FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY
BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
PROGRAM INFORMATİON

Biomedical Engineering is an engineering branch that aims to produce solutions to medical problems by developing diagnostic or therapeutic methods with an engineering approach. The diversity and complexity of living systems requires the collaboration of innovative, knowledgeable and imaginative doctors, scientists and engineers in analyzing these systems. The main objectives of Biomedical Engineering are; It is the development of tools, devices and systems necessary to understand the structures, working styles and interactions of biological systems in general, and the components of the human body, which is a highly organized and complex system, and to identify and correct their functional disorders. Biomedical engineering has been developing at an increasing pace for the last fifty years. Biomedical Engineering Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary and Biology, such as the problems revealed in life sciences;

  • Brings solutions to these problems by applying the basic principles of physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering (computer, electronics, etc.),
  • Designs and develops new methods, algorithms, devices and software for diagnosis and treatment,
  • Developing and manufacturing existing methods and devices in parallel with the developments in engineering sciences and technology,
  • Develops the necessary instrument-human interfaces so that devices, systems and processes that are designed and produced and made ready for use after performance tests can serve with the highest performance in their fields of use,
  • Develops management and organizational models of various processes in order to increase the quality and efficiency of health care services,

It also covers services that require qualified personnel such as the calibration and maintenance of medical devices and software systems of various scales in various health institutions for the smooth functioning of these systems.

Language of the Program: The language of instruction of the program is Turkish.

Admission and Registration Conditions: Students who meet the necessary conditions and want to transfer from other undergraduate or associate degree programs are given the opportunity to transfer according to the adjustment rules.

Graduation Requirements: In order to graduate from the program, the student must take the compulsory and elective courses from the eight-semester course plan and be successful. In order to graduate from the program, it is necessary to be successful in the courses taught in eight semesters with a total of 240 ECTS. In addition, it is required to be successful in workplace training in the seventh semester. It is necessary to be successful in the summer term internship of 72 working days in total, including 36 working days of internship in the summer term of the second year, and 36 working days of business and organizational internship in the summer term of the third year.

Principles of Assessment and Evaluation: The student is evaluated with a midterm exam and a final exam in one semester. A student's success in a course is determined by the letter grade given by the course instructor after the final/make-up exam of that course, taking into account the sum of 40% of the midterm/exam grade point average and 60% of the final/make-up exam grade. In order for a student to be considered successful in a course, the letter grade must be at least CC.

Employment Opportunities;

  • In hospitals and other health institutions,
  • in universities,
  • In medical research centers,
  • In organizations that produce, sell and provide after-sales support for medical devices and materials,
  • In the pharmaceutical industry,
  • As they can work in the IT departments of health institutions, they will be able to continue postgraduate education in related fields such as biomedical, biomaterials, biomechanics, bioinformatics, medical physics, genetic engineering, tissue engineering; They will be able to participate in joint programs with partner universities abroad.

Transition to Higher Degree Programs: Students who graduate from our undergraduate program can enroll in graduate and then doctoral programs after meeting the determined success criteria.

Selcuk University, Faculty of Technology, Department of Biomedical Engineering continues to admit students to the graduate program since the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.
